Zadar —— The Legend of the Most Beautiful Sunset

After saying goodbye to the Plitvice Lakes National Park in the noon of May 9th, 2014, we four guys continuously drove to the city beside Adriatic Sea, Zadar, which is the fifth biggest city of Croatia. Zadar is famous of her beautiful sunset. Alfred Hichcock (1899-1980) said "Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world" when he visited here in 1964. At that time he never had the chance to see the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun built in 2005. So, it is strongly suggested that if you would like to visit here, you should arrive before evening.

Zadar has two uniques to be proud of. They are the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun, respectively. Both were designed by Nikola Bašić in 2005. These special constructions won the prize of the fourth edition of the European Prize for Urban Public Space for the city. Especially, they have conception of environmental protection. The Sea Organ put many organ pipes under the rock scale along the seashore. Strong wind is a free and endless resource. Along with surf, the natural wind will make a huge consonant A-flat harmony. The timbre is unique to be listened to in other places of the world.

The Greeting to the Sun is a big round plate of 22-meter of diameter. With device of keep solar energy in daytime, the energy will convert into electricity to drive the colourful LED tubes lightened. We went to Zadar to check-in first and then came to city centre to have dinner first. At the sunset, all visitors are just watched the seascape and the falling sun quietly, seemingly that the world are noticing this corner at the very moment. It's really lovely, with breeze, with people, with the organ harmony and with the sea and sun. It impressed me.
